Loma Prieta earthquake hits campus, closes library
McHenry Library is temporarily closed in the aftermath of the Loma Prieta earthquake. The 6.9 magnitude quake, which struck on October 17,1989, has provided a wealth of data to UCSC’s earth scientists.

UC Regents approve a new LRDP
UC Regents approve the campus’s Long-Range Development Plan. The plan and its environmental impact report are based on a projected campus population of 12,000 undergraduates and 3,000 graduate students in 2005.
